The team Veterans Over-35s are situated in south Manchester and compete in the Cheshire Veterans Division Top Tier.

The squad feature Papiss Cisse, who scored 37 scores in 117 games for Newcastle United after moving to them for £9m from Bundesliga side Freiburg in 2012.

He made his first appearance for Wythenshawe in their last home-field game versus defending champions Collegiate Old Boys and netted every one of the six goals in a six-two victory - featuring a 32-minute first-half hat-trick.

In total, the former top-flight footballers have won 15 big honors and moved for total transfer fees of approximately £123m.

Ireland began playing for the team in pre-season this season through good friend and current team teammate Blake Norton, and the former Irish midfielder then asked additional former professionals, who all compete in a midweek nine-a-side match, to join in.

Former Senegal striker Niasse, who scored 12 scores in 65 top-flight matches for the Toffees and still goes to their home games, also had his first appearance versus Collegiate OB - who are based in Liverpool and wear an Blue warm-up gear as their uniform.

"A friend Stephen told me 'join and play, it's a laugh'," said Niasse.

"After that he told me we were facing a team from Liverpool and the surprise I had when I saw them wearing Blue shirts - I say this is wrong for me!

"When you still enjoy the game and you know you can still play, wherever you can kick a ball, what are you going to do?

"The fans who turn up and watch are pleased and to make someone's moment if they watch us playing there and to pose us questions - it's more like the joy of us getting a place we can enjoy football, with organisation of course."

Such is the squad depth at the club, Niasse had his debut at defender.

"It's a bit unusual but then, I love sprinting and just go inside - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"The movement is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

'Surreal Feeling

In addition to Cisse's six scores on his first game, Ireland has scored 8 in 3 games for the side, while Boyd hit five on his debut appearance and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by position, scored a hat-trick in one game as a striker.

Wythenshawe are top of the Premier Tier with 3 wins from three and a GD of +19.

One opponent, 38, who plays on the wing for Collegiate OB, faced former Latics defender Maynor Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his nine-year-old boy who Emile Heskey was.

Figueroa has appeared at 2 World Cups for his country, in as well as featuring in more than two hundred top-flight matches.

"The news was spreading like a rumor they had these ex-Premier League stars," remarked the player.

"I felt I was a little starstruck facing him to be honest.
