Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
